This film has a meaningful plot, moves along in a sequential manner, has good acting from Nigel Bruce, Basil Rathbone and supporting cast, and is very entertaining. Very worthwhile to view.

Well, I do not think about Holmes´ age in the 1940s, that the story has nothing to do with the Conan Doyle stories. It is really a well written detective plot. Rathbone acts brilliantly as ever. I highly recommend this film.

Subject: Holmes Masters the Master Race
Subject: Holmes Masters the Master Race
Another engaging sleuth fest from the Universal series starring the indomitable duo, Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. This time Holmes needs all of his fabulous powers of deduction and three different disguises to rescue a secret bomb sight and its Swiss inventor from the clutches of professor Moriarty (Lionel Atwill). He is assisted, of course, by the always loyal Dr. Watson and the continuously confused Inspector Lestrade (Dennis Hoey). These Universal Pictures Holmes films always produce memorable lines. Here is my favorite from this one: Watson to Holmes: "Woman? What woman?" Holmes: "She's blonde, five foot six, full-lipped and extremely affectionate." Now there's a mystery worth deducing! Some are a little better than others, but you can't go wrong with any of these highly entertaining detective yarns.

Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce will always be Holmes and Watson to me. But that top secret bomb sight looks suspiciously like my Omega D2 photo enlarger. Who knew?
Still a lot of fun.

But certainly film worth watching,I certainly doubt Watson's sense of humour and professor's
shrewdness, save these two, this movie is near flawless.Rathbone has fitted perfectly(Sherlock Holmes).

The file in H.264 is close to perfect (335 MB, 320 * 240).
So far the best quality from archive.org I downloaded.
I would love to see more movies in this format.

The larger of the MPEG 4 files is an MEPG H.264 file. You will need QuickTime 7 to play it http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/.
It's also been optimized to work on new ipod+video
Enjoy,
Scott
As for the movie. Sure Holmes would have been at least 80, but who cares? The worlds greatest fictional detective vs. the Nazis. How cool is that?
